How does an HSA health plan work?

Traditionally, you pay a monthly premium to the insurance company. If you don't use the insurance at all, the money still goes to the insurance company and you will never see it again. Now that is changing, With an HSA health plan, only a portion of the money goes to the insurance company and the remainder goes to your own personal tax-free savings account. Now you have ownership, more flexibility and greater control of your health cost dollars. The lower insurance premium provides a simple high deductible health plan, an HDHP that has no co-pays. The smaller claims are your responsibility and can be paid with tax-free dollars out of your HSA while the insurance will protect you against catastrophic events through major medical coverage.
